Your participation indicates that you agree to our standards and code of ethics. You recognize the magnitude of the responsibility that you have accepted in choosing to participate in this program and agree to always interact appropriately according to the highest ethical standards.

 Be yourself! Please read the following guidelines carefully,

 There are numerous ethical issues surrounding a mentoring relationship. Ethics has many dimensions, particularly in the realm of cyberspace. As part of this program, we ask that you agree to a basic set of guidelines and principles that are outlined below. Though not exhaustive, we hope these guidelines will assist you in establishing an honest, trusting and rewarding relationship.

By accessing or using the services of Mentoring Africa, and thereby becoming a part the community, you are agreeing to abide by this Code of Conduct. Failure to adhere to this code of conduct and the Terms may result, among other things, in termination of the service to you or by you and the deletion of content that you have posted with or without notice, as determined by the Mentoring Africa program administrator in sole discretion.

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change, modify, add, or delete portions of this code of conduct at any time without further notice. If we do this, we will post the changes to this Code of Conduct to this page and will indicate at the top of this page the date these terms were last revised. Your continued use of the website after any such change constitutes your acceptance of the new Code of Conduct. If you do not agree to this or any further Code of Conduct, you may not use or access (or continue to use or access) the website. It is your responsibility to regularly check the website to determine if there have been changes to this code of conduct and to review such changes.

Participants agree not to engage in any tortious or criminal activity and if you do engage in such activity, please understand that you will be fully responsible to the full arm of the law and you will retain your own legal counsel at your own expense, pay all necessary fines and other costs and agree to hold all necessary entities here harmless.

Mentor

As a mentor, I agree to:

  • Not use any ideas, products, materials that a mentee has, or may develop, to further my business   or financial interests and maintain the confidentiality of all ideas, products or materials that have been entrusted to me by my mentee
  • Encourage my mentee to maintain the highest ethical standards
  • Maintain a high standard of personal and professional conduct with my mentee
  • Always communicate in a truthful manner
  • Support the goals of my mentee
  • Avoid the intent or appearance of unethical or compromising practice in relationships, actions, and communications
  • Refer my mentee to the mentoring program administrator for issues or questions for which I feel unqualified

Mentee

As a mentee, I agree to:

  • Put effort and energy into getting matched with my mentor – learn about my mentor in advance and be able to articulate how they might help me by sharing their experience.
  • Create relevant, specific, detailed, and clear mentoring.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of my mentoring relationship
  • Build proactively my mentoring relationship
  • Communicate openly with my mentor
  • Honor my commitment to my mentor
  • Complete any tasks agreed upon between my mentor and myself
  • Hold all sensitive information provided through my mentoring relationship in strict confidence.
